Google Cloud Essentials Course & PDF Guides

  • Learn the basics of some of the most important services available in Google Cloud
  • Understand how to use virtual machines and containers as well as serverless offerings to solve common business problems with Google Cloud
  • Work through hands-on exercises to deploy a virtual machine and query an analytical database

This course introduces some of the most important services available in Google Cloud, including computing resources, storage systems and databases, security, and monitoring, as well as logging services. The course begins with an introduction to computing options, including Compute Engine for VMs and Cloud Functions for serverless functions. In addition to gaining hands-on experience deploying VMs and serverless functions, students will also learn how to decide which computing service is right for their needs.

Next, we review storage options, including object storage, relational databases, and data warehousing. In this section of the course, we will deploy a Postgres database using Cloud SQL and query public datasets using BigQuery. We’ll also review basic security practices for authorizing the use of services using Identity and Access Management (IAM). Networking, including defining subnets and creating firewall rules, as well as security topics such as access controls and auditing are also covered. The course concludes with an overview of monitoring and logging services in Google Cloud.

What you’ll learn and how you can apply it

By the end of the live online course, you’ll understand:

  • The difference between virtual machines, containers, serverless functions, and when to use each
  • How to differentiate between object storage, relational databases, and NoSQL databases
  • Cloud operations, including monitoring, logging, and cost management on Google Cloud

And you’ll be able to:

  • Deploy virtual machines and serverless functions in Google Cloud
  • Deploy a database and query a data warehouse
  • Create firewall rules and assign roles to grant permissions to users

This live event is for you because…

  • You are new to Google Cloud and want to extend your cloud skills beyond other clouds
  • You are a software developer working on applications and services in Google Cloud
  • You are looking for help to get you started using compute and storage services in Google Cloud
  • You want to learn how to use Google Cloud services to support application deployment and operation, including security, networking, and monitoring

Prerequisites

  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure concepts, such as servers, databases, and networking
